With yesterday's sixth place finish by Flemming Willumsen in Västerås - Uppsala, Dreigiau Pro Cycling ends what was a remarkable run of form which saw the Welsh team get results in five straight races and occupy the number one rank for global climbers of the week. A double-podium in the Tour of Telsiu was the highlight of this past run, and supporters of Y Dreigiau ("The Dragons" in the team's native Welsh tongue) were pleased to see Flemming Willumsen, Borislav Shashlov, and Alfie Daw get results to propel the team up to Division 7.
"The future looks bright," mused manager Alex Fish, "we have a young team and a young captain in Flemming Willumsen who is capable of getting results in any of the lower divisions. Also getting Ricky Ramsey back from injury yesterday was a huge boost in our race preparations. Morale is high and I plan to keep it that way."
The Dragons finish up the last of their Division 8 races this week with sprints in Spain and Belgium before they begin signing up for Division 7 races. The team looks to build on their rapid ascension through the divisions and possibly get to the point where they can sign up for their first tour before season's end. To do so would mean getting to Division 5, but with the mixture of youthful potential and talented experience in the squad, Dreigiau Pro Cycling is one of global cycling's teams to watch.
